EliThe main protagonist of The Compound, Eli felt as if he lived in the shadow of his more likable brother Eddy, all his life. A very intelligent child, Eli began his first year of college classes at fifteen very gifted at both math and science. His routine consisted of picking authors and reading every book they'd written. The first to discover his fathers treachery, he decoded the message that his father left him with the help of Lexie and Therese. He was able to escape the compound and meet up with Eddy and Gram still every much alive. He then returned to The Compound to free his mother, sisters and brothers, who were then taken on a much needed vacation.

RexThe figurehead and megalomaniac behind the entire nuclear scheme was Eli's father Rex. Rex Yanakakis, adopted as a baby, then orphaned when he was nineteen, used his genius mind and inheritance to get a degree in computer science at MIT, and then start up his own company which eventually rose to the most profitable of its kind in the world. Although kind and caring on the outside Rex was a psychotic who wished to put his family though massive amount of emotional torture for the sake of a science experiment. Truly a despicable human being, he considered the cloning and canabalism of his sons and daughters a necessity.

CleaThe mother of the the Yanakakis family and Rex's Wife. Clea was a good mother always providing support to Lexie, Therese and Eli, and helping them overcome the loss of their grandmother and brother. Clea's routine consisted of knitting. Clea was ultimately used to breed humans for consumption and was ultimately distraught when Eli came to her with the facts. Even then, with insurmountable facts pressed against her, she had a hard time believing the truth.

LexieThe older sister of the Yanakakis foursome Lexie feels like she is babied by her parents. Her routine consists of watching many horror movies a day on the big screen television in The Compound, she also liked to read epic lengthly stories like Cold Mountain. Vital in the ending of The Compound Lexie played a important role in the escape from the prison in which they have been trapped in for years. She helped decode Rex's near unconscious message to Eli instructing him on how to open the vault door.

ThereseNicknamed "Little Miss Perfect" by our protagonist Eli, Therese is a perfectionist that is fluent in French and plays the oboe. Like all of the characters in The Compound she follows a steady routine which encompasses watching Mary Poppins at least once a day. Forever hopeful for a happy outcome she had a hard time accepting her father's heinous crimes. Although she toughens up by the end of the book and helps Eli and Lexie decode the message that their father left them.
